  • Fighting the Vanilla

So, it is sad to say that we are kind of old and haven't moved out of the IKEA phase of our lives. Actually it's not really that sad, but I remember my friend asking me if I knew of any affordable furniture places a few years ago, and I said, "Ummmm... well, of course IKEA..." To which she said, "Eeew. We're too old for IKEA." Uhh, otay. YOU too old. Old person.

    But I digress.

We wanted to add some sort of organization to our "bar" (read: cheap ass workbench we bought at Costco)... there wasn't much counter space to work with, and we just had a bunch of random junk under it... seen earlier here:

And here it is, cleared off, but with the same stuff under it:

But what could we put under there?  We were cruising IKEA last weekend, and found this EXPEDIT bookshelf, in 3 dazzling colors: black/brown, birch, and white.

    find it here

I am sick of the overabundance of black/brown stuff we have in our house, and thought white might be nice.  The mister suggested we could spray paint the whole thing, but I thought it would be fun to do a bunch of colors. When we went to pick out the colors, I was surprised I wasn't met with a lot of argument. They were very... Easter-like.

Then the mister suggested we spray paint inside the house. Mmmkay crack baby. No.

    First, we planned:

    Then, we executed:

Billie was really obsessed with being part of the action. I don't think the paint was good for her already messed up Lhasa brain.

    Almost there....

Annnnnd done. I was actually surprised how cute it turned out. The colors were a little out there!

Now look how nice and clean everything is! Counter space, reclaimed.

I feel accomplished. It took two days to do, between the painting and waiting for sections to dry so we could paint the adjacent sections. The colors make me happy. So does all that liquor.
